Updated: Dec 2, 2020

At Clark Road Chiropractic Center, our massage therapist is highly trained and skilled in a variety of techniques! Discuss your health history, problem areas, and wellness goals to determine the best type of massage to suit your individual needs.

Types of Massage

  • Swedish Massage - Referred to in Sweden to the "Classic Massage" this technique is likely the most common form of massage. The benefits include increased blood circulation, soothing muscles, and increased relaxation. A Swedish massage typically combines long gliding movements, joint mobility, and a variety of pressure. Lighter pressure on bony areas and stronger pressure on thick muscular areas make a Swedish massage perfect for stress management and relaxation.

  • Deep Tissue Massage - An excellent choice for stubborn muscles knots or if you are experiencing a high amount of stress. Deep tissue can also help address specific aches and pains. Strokes tend to be stronger and follow muscles fibers and tendons. The benefits include improved joint mobility, proper muscle function, and increased range of motion.

  • Lymphatic Drainage - Using gentle and rhythmic motions, this technique helps redirect blood flow from your feet towards your head. The lymphatic system is a subsystem of the circulatory system and immune system. It is one of the ways we flush and filter out waste, bacteria, viruses, and toxins which directly impacts our immune system. The benefits include strengthening your immune system and the ability fight infections and recover from illness!

  • Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy - This technique involves in depth knowledge of the musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology likely to address specific problem areas. This technique especially complements chiropractic treatments in that the benefits include restoring optimal joint mechanics, repairing soft tissue injuries, and improving functional movement patterns.

  • Cupping and Myofascial Release - There are many forms of myofascial release and cupping can be especially helpful for tight muscles, overuse injuries, and stress. Cupping gently pulls the soft tissue upwards allowing the muscles upward to redirect blood flow to specific areas. The benefits include reduced muscle soreness, less joint stiffness, reduced pain, and it also helps to release toxins

  • Abdominal Massage - Abdominal Massage is oven overlooked but has many benefits for very common concerns such as constipation, bloating, and anxiety. Gentle massage techniques applied to abdomen helps to relax the muscles that surround the intestines. This technique is not recommended for everyone so make sure to discuss it with your doctor before receiving this type of treatment.

Massage therapy is an excellent complement to chiropractic care. While a chiropractic adjustment identifies and corrects spinal and joint misalignments, massage therapy addresses tension and hypertonicity in the corresponding soft tissue. A specific technique may be better suited for an individual based on their health history and wellness goals so it is best to discuss these things with your massage therapy so you the best treatment may be offered.
