Bend Don't Break: Taking Stretching to the Next Level with ART

Active Release Techniques (ART) is a state of the art deep stretching system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. "First and foremost, ART is a stretch." explains Dr. Kris Kondrad, Chiropractor and certified ART practitioner. "Strategically applying pressure and massage with my fingers enables me to get deeper into a muscle, which allows me to stretch 10-15 % further than you can do on your own."

ART is the "gold standard" treatment for repetitive stress injuries, making athletes, especially dancers, runners and rowers prime candidates for this type of treatment. Overuse can produce dense scar tissue which constricts movement patterns. Patients may experience a loss of strength, reduce range of motion and pain, while a trapped nerve may cause a sensation of tingling or weakness. Although popular in the athletic circuit (ART was developed by the Chiropractor for the Denver Broncos) repetitive stress injuries can happen to anyone.

During an ART session, Dr. Kondrad utilizes his strong sense of intuitive touch to manually evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons and ligaments. He explains, "Once I detect the problem, I personalize the treatment by selecting from over 500 specific protocols used to free restrictions and restore blood flow to the area." Dr. Kondrad uses a combination of Chiropractic care, ART, and Gua Sha Technique which uses hand instruments to release soft tissue restrictions and helps patients recover faster.

ART will often permanently resolve health complaints such as:

  • headaches

  • back pain

  • carpel tunnel syndrome

  • shin splints

  • shoulder pain

  • plantar fasciitis

  • knee problems

  • tennis elbow

  • tendinitis

  • IT band syndrome

  • Hip pain
